La Giralda fut autrefois le minaret de la mosquée de Séville, transformée en cathédrale au XIIIe siècle. Il est vu d'un point de vue moins emblématique, comme un record d'un moment touristique occasionnel. Ce croquis informel a été peint lors d'un voyage de Dauzats en Espagne en compagnie du baron Isidore Taylor (1789–1879), qui a joué un rôle crucial dans l'expansion du goût populaire français pour inclure des œuvres d'art d'autres cultures et des scènes de voyage à l'étranger.
