Les saints comprennent saint Jérôme (avec son lion) et saint Joseph (avec son bâton fleuri). La destination originale de ce retable était probablement une chapelle ou église franciscaine dédiée à saint Bernardino, qui est montré avec son monogramme du nom de Jésus (IHS) et trois mitres à ses pieds. Les mitres sont inscrites avec les trois évêchés d'Urbino, de Sienne et de Ferrare que le saint a refusé d'accepter.
