Ce portrait appartenait autrefois à la collection Avogadro de Brescia et il représente probablement Gerolamo Avogadro (mort en 1534). Daté sur l'étape (en bas à droite), c'est le premier portrait indépendant de taille réelle produit en Italie. Le regard lointain de la baby-sitter et l'amplitude du costume rappellent la tradition du portrait vénitien telle que développée par Giorgione et le jeune Titien dans les premières années du 16ème siècle. Un insigne Saint-Christophe est visible sur le gentleman.
