John Burroughs (1837-1921) est un naturaliste et écrivain de renommée internationale. Ses écrits appelèrent Henry Ford, qui invita Burroughs en 1914 à se joindre à lui et Thomas Edison pour explorer ensemble les Everglades de Floride. Cela a conduit aux voyages de camping Vagabond plus célèbres de quelques années plus tard, qui ont également impliqué Harvey Firestone.
