Construite par Adolphe Sax, le constructeur belge connu pour avoir inventé le saxophone, cette trompette valvulaire se distingue de la trompette régulière. Les valves ont été ajoutées pour augmenter l'agilité et permettre au joueur de jouer aussi vite qu'un violon et une flûte. Malgré les efforts d'Adolphe Sax, cet instrument n'a pas pu conquérir son espace.
