La peinture est une scène du matin tôt par temps calme où un pêcheur aux bras tendus est à peu près à jeter une pierre pour effrayer les poissons afin qu'ils nagent dans un filet dérivant flottant à la surface de la mer. Le pêcheur évoque aussi un motif religieux représentant une figure du Christ. C'était probablement aussi l'artiste
