Arnold Schönberg a travaillé toute sa vie comme artisan et a été concepteur, constructeur de modèles et ingénieur. Son amour pour l'invention, la construction et la conception se développaient en partie par besoin, car les objets qu'il créait étaient des substituts à des achats coûteux, bien que le travail pratique avec des matériaux ait partiellement servi de relaxation, et Schönberg semble également avoir cherché – et trouvé – l'expression individuelle par la réalisation et l'élaboration d'inspirations.
