Lorsque Artur Loureiro retourna à Porto en 1901, après une longue période en Australie (où il vivait depuis 1884), il apporta avec lui quelques œuvres qu'il devait exposer dans son premier spectacle à Porto en mars 1902, dans son atelier récemment inauguré au Palacio de Cristal. Cette peinture a été rendue par le peintre à Melbourne en 1900 et dépeint un Australien natif, l'œuvre est la preuve de l'artiste dans la peinture en plein air.
