Ladislav Mednyánszky était l'impressionniste le plus emblématique travaillant sur le territoire slovaque. Il a vécu pendant un certain temps à Strážky manoir, en vue des Hautes Tatras et a exploré visuellement la campagne environnante, en particulier les virages dans la rivière Poprad à proximité. Les qualités mélancoliques de cet endroit étaient bien adaptées à son caractère solitaire; il pouvait errer pendant des heures et étudier la changeabilité de la nature, puis le faire vivre à travers des centaines de coups de pinceau subtils et des teintes de couleur.
