Avec l'ordre de "souffrer les petits enfants de venir à moi ", le Christ a insisté auprès de ses disciples réticents que son ministère s'étendait même aux très jeunes. Cette peinture a été commandée par la Liverpool School for the Blind en 1837 comme compagnon d'une œuvre de William Hilton (1786-1839),
