Les premiers leurres d'oiseaux nord-américains ont été sculptés par des Amérindiens. Créé par Shinnecock Indian Eugene Cuffee (1866-1941), ce leurre de héron unique, long, forme et peint schéma plumes relie à une tradition qui date de l'arrivée européenne à l'extrémité est de Long Island. Cuffee était un guide de chasse et peintre de maison, principalement actif à Southampton; ses leurres sont marqués par leur plumage très élaboré.
