Malgré sa mauvaise condition générale, il s'agit d'un travail d'un intérêt considérable. Les poses de la Vierge et de l'Enfant sont particulièrement inventives. L'image a été attribuée à Pesellino à un moment donné, mais on pense aussi qu'il s'agit d'un travail siennois proche de Domenico di Bartolo. C'est probablement Florentine et date vers 1440. Le cadre, bien que original, a été regilt.
