Danaid reproduit l'original conçu par Rodin pour être intégré dans les Portes de l'enfer inachevées inspirées de la Divine Comédie de Dante. Elle représente l'une des Danaïds, les filles mythologiques du roi Danaus d'Argos qui ont été condamnées pour assassiner leurs maris à la punition infinie de remplir les vases sans fond d'eau.
