C'est l'un des panneaux du haut retable de l'église de S. Alessandro, Brescia. La solennité de la scène centrale de la Nativité est soulagée par une vision d'anges joyeux occupant la partie supérieure du panneau. De chaque côté, les panneaux représentent Saint Alessandro (en bas à gauche) et Saint Jérôme en pénitence (en bas à droite) avec son lion, une pierre et un crucifix. Au-dessus de ces panneaux latéraux se trouvent Saint Gaudioso (en haut à gauche) et Saint Filippo Benizzi (en haut à droite). Le caractère fortement vénitien de Romanino
