Lehmann réalise plusieurs portraits, peints et dessinés, de son cousin Faustine Léo. Ce portrait reproduit clairement l'exemple de son maître, Ingres, notamment dans sa surface lisse et polie et les contours clairement délimités de la figure. Pourtant sa palette intensément saturée et son humeur intime ont mis le travail de Lehmann à part celui d'Ingres. Le portrait porte son cadre original.
