Janet Halleck Drake était la fille du poète new-yorkais Joseph Rodman Drake et nommée pour son ami père, le poète Fritz Greene Halleck. Elle avait environ sept ans quand elle s'est assise pour Inman, qui l'a placée dans un cadre boisé fantaisiste. Le chapeau supérieur de Mlle Drake est quelque peu emblématique de l'artiste, qui était connu pour en porter un sur la ville. Inman expose le portrait à New York en 1825 et un examinateur le trouve magnifique. (en milliers de dollars)
