Hermann Abeking est venu de Berlin et, bien qu'il ait créé un deuxième centre de vie pour lui-même à Ahrenshoop à un stade précoce, il a toujours maintenu un contact professionnel et privé avec la capitale. Après avoir étudié aux académies d'art de Dresde et de Berlin, il s'était installé ici en tant qu'artiste freelance et avait vécu comme illustrateur, artiste d'affiches et caricaturiste, principalement pour la maison d'édition d'Ullstein. Il a publié dans le magazine
