Ce magnifique paysage (en parfait état) représente un Kermis ou une foire, au cours de laquelle une fête religieuse est célébrée par une fête de rue rustique. Le sujet avait été traité par Pieter Bruegel l'Ancien, dans sa danse paysanne de vers 1568 comme une foire de vanité de folie et de vice-d'alcool. Janvier Brueghel voit en revanche le Kermis comme un emblème du bonheur d'une société bien ordonnée. Il adopte son père.
