Ce portrait d'une femme non identifiée ressemble à beaucoup d'autres portraits de l'époque, britanniques et américains. Les échanges artistiques étaient courants dans l'océan Atlantique. Des citoyens de classe supérieure ont voyagé à Londres, où certains ont fait peindre leurs portraits. Les artistes britanniques ont déménagé en Amérique pour leur carrière. Le fait que nous ne sachions pas où ce portrait a été peint est révélateur et témoigne de la prospérité des échanges culturels transatlantiques pendant la période coloniale.
