Isaiah Isaacs aurait été le premier colon juif de Richmond, en Virginie, à arriver dans la région en 1769. Comme le sujet père, Isaacs était un orfèvre, mais dans la tradition du 18ème siècle, il s'est branché dans d'autres domaines. M. Isaacs a établi un partenariat avec Jacob Cohen, et ils ont exploité l'une des premières tavernes de Richmond, les Bird-in-Hand. Richea Myers Marx (1769-1838) est la fille de l'orfèvre Myer Myers de New York. Elle épousa Joseph Marx, un marchand né en Allemagne qui s'installa ici dans les années 1790. Ils résidaient à Richmond au 6e et rue Cary. La famille Marx appartenait à la congrégation de Beth-Shalome et était importante dans la communauté juive florissante qui prospère à Richmond depuis le XVIIIe siècle.
