Le vapeur Miguel M. de Pinillos a été construit au chantier naval J. Laing à Sunderland (Angleterre) sur commande des armateurs Pinillos, qui l'a reçu en 1885. Détails techniques: longueur 109 m., poutre 13.79 m., profondeur 9.43 m., tonnage total 2.999 t. (2.125 nett), et propulsé par 1200 ch moteurs à une vitesse de 11 nœuds. Il a été utilisé pour la ligne des Caraïbes, qu'il a ensuite navigué pendant plus de 30 ans presque sans incident. Cependant, après la Grande Guerre (et une période où il était amarré au port), l'armateur Pinillos l'a vendu aux armateurs basques Abrizqueta & Compañía, qui l'ont renommé Juan Abrizqueta. Le navire navigua encore pendant trois ans jusqu'à ce qu'il soit démoli en Hollande en 1923.
