Jurōjin, dit avoir vécu en Chine à la fin du XIe siècle, est montré comme un vieil homme avec une longue barbe. Il porte un bâton, dans certaines représentations un rouleau, et est accompagné par un cerf. Au Japon, il est compté comme l'un des sept dieux chanceux. Emblématique de longévité heureuse, son image est particulièrement appropriée pour décorer le tokonome au Nouvel An.
