Si ce n'était pas pour l'inscription, la peinture de Lin Shu pourrait être prise pour un paysage de montagne idéalisé avec un érudit générique regardant d'un pont. Lin écrit qu'il a visité les magnifiques grottes et sommets de Wenzhou à Zhejiang, et qu'il peint ce fan comme une « vue » pour un ami qui l'accompagnera sur le même voyage le lendemain.
