Cette vignette évocatrice est signée par un certain Lu Kezheng, un artiste obscur qui n'a pas été enregistré dans l'histoire de la peinture chinoise. En centrant la composition sur la moitié inférieure du ventilateur, Lu a laissé le haut enveloppé de brouillard, créant un sentiment de suspense en refusant une vue sur la distance lointaine. La peinture est datée selon le cycle de soixante ans du calendrier chinois prémoderne, de sorte qu'il n'est pas possible de savoir si elle a été faite en 1591 ou soixante ans plus tard en 1651, bien que ce dernier semble plus probable basé sur son style.
