Le peintre danois Peder Severin Kroyer (1851-1909) est une figure importante de l'École de Skagen, qui a réuni différents artistes pour travailler au même endroit, dans le style de l'École de Pont-Aven. Elle fait partie du renouveau artistique scandinave initié dans les années 1860. À partir de 1882, Kroyer passa plusieurs étés à Skagen, où il dépeignait la vie rustique des pêcheurs. C'est le port de pêche.
