Nascido na segunda metade do século XIX, Pedro Alexandrino iniciou sua incursão no meio das artes ainda criança, como assistente dos decoradores Barandier e Stevaux em projets para construções em São Paulo. Antes de ingressar na Escola Nacional de Belas Artes, no Rio de Janeiro em 1890, toma aulas particulares de pintura com importantes artistas da época, dos quais destaca-se Almeida Junior, influência fondamental durante toda sua carreira. Além de seu ofício de pintor, Alexandrino lecionou por muito tempo, inclusive para artistas que viriam a se tornar cânones do Modernismo brasileiro como Tarsila do Amaral e Anita Malfatti. O conjunto de sua obra faz transparecer o interesse pelo gênero de natureza-morta. Nesses quadros o pintor demonstra grande habildade em retratar metais, porcelanas e outros objets espelhados.
