CAIROAu début du XIXe siècle, le Caire n'était pas une ville impressionnante. Elle était petite et n'était plus sur le Nil, car la rivière avait changé de cap. C'était crampé et sale. Mais au milieu du XIXe siècle, la ville avait changé. Il a grandi et de nouveaux hôtels ont été construits pour l'afflux de touristes. En 1867, le Khedive, Ismail Pasha, avait été à l'Exposition Internationale à Paris et était devenu impressionné par Haussmann
