Lors de son inscription à l'Académie Julian, Pierre Bonnard s'est joint à quatre de ses amis artistes pour former le groupe des Nabis. Le groupe d'avant-garde, influencé par l'impressionniste, a été impressionné par l'utilisation de couleurs et de motifs décoratifs par Paul Gauguin pour exprimer les sentiments et obtenir une réponse émotionnelle du spectateur. Cette lithographie est un exemple d'utilisation de blocs de couleurs et de motifs décoratifs dans le style Les Nabis. La femme de la lithographie est la sœur de l'artiste Andree Terasse, tenant son fils Jean. Dans le coin inférieur droit se trouve l'artiste lui-même.
