François-Août-René, vicomte de Chateaubriand (1768-1848) est un homme d'État français. En 1803, Napoleaon le nomma secrétaire de la légation à Rome, mais dans une brochure écrite en 1814, il donna son soutien à la monarchie. L'année suivante, Chateaubriand fut créé pair de France et fut ambassadeur à Berlin, Londres et Rome, et ministre des Affaires étrangères en 1823. Il est considéré comme l'un des auteurs principaux du mouvement romantique.
