Complété en 1818, le phare Macquarie de Vaucluse a été conçu par Francis Greenway, un condamné purgeant une peine pour contrefaçon, et nommé pour Lachlan Macquarie, le gouverneur de la Nouvelle-Galles du Sud qui l'a commandé. Macquarie était tellement satisfait de son phare qu'il a accordé une grâce partielle à l'architecte anglais. En 1883, des fondations de grès ont été construites pour remplacer un phare. Conçu par James Barnet pour ressembler étroitement à l'original, ce phare continue de fonctionner, assurant le passage sécuritaire des navires dans le port de Sydney.
