En 1942, le magasin Richmond's Thalhimers a fermé sa chambre française exclusive après l'occupation allemande de la France pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. L'Americana Shop, créé à sa place, a promu le design américain comme option patriotique. Les demi-lunes de sequin embellissant cette robe de soirée étaient un attribut de l'Artémis grec ou Diana romaine, la déesse puissante de la chasse et un emblème approprié, peut-être, pour les femmes de Richmond tenant le front de la maison pendant que les maris étaient loin à la guerre
