Peint dans la manière la plus succulente et la plus peintre de Sully, "Musidora" est son seul nu connu. Inspiré par le poème Summer (1727) de James Thomson, il est à la fois chaste et érotique, une combinaison qui avait un grand attrait pour le public contemporain victorien. Sully dépeint le modeste Musidora au moment où son prétendant, Damon, découvre sa baignade dans la forêt. Sa conduite gentlemane l'impressionne tellement qu'elle promet son amour pour lui immédiatement. Le sujet a été peint par de nombreux artistes de l'époque, mais l'interprétation de Sully, dans laquelle le spectateur involontaire joue le rôle de Damon, est absolument unique.
