Parmi les dernières œuvres de Titian, produites en 1575-76, deux étaient des commissions officielles: une pour le Palazzo Ducale, représentant Doge Antonio Grimani Kneeling Before the Faith, et la seconde pour Philip II, représentant l'Espagne Succouring Religion. Ce dernier commémore la participation de la flotte espagnole à la bataille de Lepanto.
