Elle ressemble à Hendrickje Stoffels (né vers 1625-1626, décédé en 1663), épouse de fait de Rembrandt et fait l'objet d'un certain nombre de ses portraits, dont l'un se trouve dans The Met. L'image est l'œuvre d'un élève de Rembrandt, et la forte lumière frappant le visage suggère qu'il peut être par Barent Fabritius. Une autre version est à Dresde.
