The Katzenelnbogen Series For Jan the Younger’s biography see the entry on his portrait in the Leeuwarden Series (SK-A-534). The present work is very close to Van Ravesteyn’s 1611 Portrait of Jan the Younger in the collection of the Mauritshuis.9 Unlike that portrait, however, the collar in the present one is trimmed with lace, suggesting that another, lost portrait served as the prototype. The same portrait probably also served as the prototype for the Portrait of Jan the Younger in the Leeuwarden Series (SK-A-534).
