The Miracle of St Mark Freeing the Slave was created by Tintoretto in 1548 and measures 415 cm x 541 cm. The painting portrays an episode from Jacopo da Varazze's Golden Legend, showcasing Saint Mark, patron saint of Venice, intervening to make invulnerable a slave who was going to be martyrized for his veneration of a saint's relics.

The Artist: Tintoretto (Jacopo Comin)

Tintoretto, born Jacopo Robusti in late September or early October 1518, was an Italian painter from the Venetian school of Italian painting. He was famed for his swift painting technique and the audacity of his brushwork, which earned him the nickname Il Furioso ('The Furious'). His contemporaries both admired and envied his ability to work quickly while maintaining exceptional quality.
