Sphere is surrounded by a spherical metal arc, 36.6 cm in exterior diameter, 1.5 cm in width and 0.4 cm thick, which acts as a meridian. The arc features the inscription Meridien Degrés d’elevation du Pôle Longueur des Jours sous choque climat en Heures et demte Heurex Climats. Each quadrant is graduated and numbered from 0º to 90º. The sphere is 32.6 cm in diameter and is covered with pasteboard and coloured, printed paper. It is Ptolemaic in type – that is, with the Earth as its centre. The language used is French. In the lower part, a horizontal ring is divided up into hours, using Roman numerals. In the upper part, a brass pointer. 12-spindle sphere with a meridian every 10º. The title is located between Madagascar and Nouvelle Hollande GLOBE TERRESTRE rediguée astronomiquement et ou se trouvent les trois voyage du capit. COOK, ses decouvertes depuis le mois d’Avril 1768 jusqu’an 14 Fév. 1779 époque de sa mort à l’Ille d‘Owhyhee, la ROUTE et le RETOUR de ses deux vaiseaux depuis la catastrophe jusqu’an 22 Aoust 1780. The title describes the three voyages of Captain James Cook and the discoveries he made, that is why the three courses are marked on the sphere. Each course is shown with its corresponding legend, detailing the outward and homeward voyages. The Equator, the elliptic and the meridian are graduated. The original meridian is El Hierro. The two tropics are drawn with different lines to the meridians. 6.5-centimetre wood horizon with coloured printed paper and the border painted red. The ring of the horizon is decorated with the signs of the zodiac featuring drawings of each sign, the months of the year and the directions of the winds, including double graduation with a difference of degrees.
