The barefoot apostle is wearing an ample blue tunic and a red cloak over his shoulders. In his right hand, he holds the double key, a skilfully represented accessory, and in his left hand is the closed Book. Behind St. Peter is a high wall, after which one can glimpse a mountainous landscape under a palely lit grey sky.Profoundly influenced by Vasco Fernandes, Gaspar Vaz is defined by his gracious and efficient attitude, although he displays inferior technical and creative skills, as can be seen in the two examples (St. Peter and St. Paul) originating from a church in the Viseu region.
