Van den Anker and Quignon, who met in Pont-Aven, produced the iconic painted sign that hung for years over the entrance to the Pension Gloanec. The sign, designed to advertise the boarding-house, is a stylised representation of the artists and their gear on apparently on Port-Manec’h beach in Nevez. It testifies to the warm welcome given to artists in Pont-Aven and the creative atmosphere of the time, while proffering an idealised vision of the artists’ profession
