In the early 1960s Philips began designing with more and more emphasis on standardization of form and technology and adaptation to popular design. The fashionable element of this 1964 pop-up toaster is the enamelled side panels. These were available in a range of popular colours, including pink, light blue and light green. The toaster can toast both sides of two slices of bread at the same time. When finished, the toast is raised out of the toaster automatically – the pop-up principle.
