Una delle prime opere di Adriaen Isenbrant, questo piccolo trittico portatile era destinato alla devozione privata. Sia l'esterno che le scene interne erano destinate a coinvolgere lo spettatore in una contemplazione empatica della Vita della Vergine. Le ali grisaille esterne, che raffigurano l'Annunciazione e la Visitazione sotto le tettoie elaborate intagliate, sono eseguite nello stile manierista di Anversa alla moda e rivelano una conoscenza delle incisioni popolari di Albrecht Dürer.
