Questo imponente orologio nonno è l'opera di Antide Janvier, che ha costruito il suo primo orologio astronomico all'età di soli 18 anni e fatto notevoli pendolo e orologi regolatori per il re Luigi XVI, i governi rivoluzionari e l'imperatore Napoleone I, che gli ha guadagnato un appartamento nel Palazzo del Louvre. L'orologio, che è in un gabinetto molto bello, ha 10 quadranti che indicano i tempi dell'alba e del tramonto, le fasi della luna, la data secondo i calendari gregoriani e repubblicani, il tempo in varie città del mondo, anni bisestili e i giorni supplementari del calendario repubblicano. Nel 1885 Jules Audéoud, che aveva una prestigiosa collezione di orologi, lo incaricò al Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers.
