Le circostanze che circondano l'esecuzione di questo studio sono oscure. Eppure l’esistenza di un’immagine cognata dell’artista Achille-Etna Michallon (1796–1822), che è stata acquistata nella vendita di quest’ultima da un altro contemporaneo, Léon Cogniet (1794–1880), testimonia l’avido interesse per l’abito arabo tra i giovani artisti della generazione romantica. Il dipinto di Michallon è ora nel Musée des Beaux-Arts, Orléans.
