Con questo suggestivo dipinto marino del Rhed di Copenhagen (una zona di ancoraggio aperto vicino alla città), Anton Melbye ha camminato sulle orme del suo maestro C. W. Eckersberg. Tuttavia, mentre Eckersberg ritrasse l'arrivo festivo dell'artista danese Thorvaldsen al Rhed nel 1838, Melbye cercò di catturare un'atmosfera serale più intramontabile nel suo lavoro. È chiaro dal dipinto che l'artista è stato incuriosito dal modo in cui il bagliore da un sole di sera d'oro si riflette sporadicamente nella superficie vetrata dell'acqua. L'atmosfera tranquilla è sottolineata dalla piccola barca a remi in primo piano, scivolando sicuramente e sicuro attraverso le acque tranquille. Questa suggestiva opera si distingue ulteriormente dai dipinti storici di Melbye della stessa località con il suo aspetto tranquillo.
