Anton Mitov è stato pittore, critico d'arte e pubblicista, fondatore della prima gilda artistica, la Society for Support of Art in Bulgaria (1893), fondatore e redattore della prima pubblicazione specializzata sull'arte in Bulgaria, rivista "Iskustvo" (Art), fondatore di, e un professore presso la Scuola Nazionale di Disegno (Accademia Nazionale d'Arte) e il suo direttore dal 1912 al 1918, Anton Mitov è stato tra l'arte bulgara Si laureò all'Accademia d'Arte di Firenze nel 1885. Egli si definiva artista della “scuola reale”, che richiedeva “che tutto fosse tratto dalla natura, non attraverso l’immaginazione”. La sua opera non era limitata alla pittura. Dipinse anche le icone, lavorò sulla decorazione del St. Alexander Nevsky Memorial Temple, e progetti per francobolli.
