Questa tela fu dipinta dopo il ritorno del pittore da Parigi nel 1880. Un'ombra morbida spazzola la terrazza dove una signora anziana sta riposando in una mattina fresca e oltre gli occhi a parete bassi può abbracciare il paesaggio lavato dal sole, con quest'ultima rendendo il blu del mare più luminoso. Leto attingeva a soggetti sociali legati alla vita a Parigi e poi sentiva la necessità di riprovarsi con i temi della pittura paesaggistica che lo rendevano famoso durante il suo soggiorno a Ischia, un'isola al largo del Golfo di Napoli.
