Quando Artur Loureiro tornò a Porto nel 1901, dopo un lungo periodo in Australia (dove visse dal 1884), condusse con lui alcune opere che doveva esporre nel suo primo spettacolo a Oporto nel marzo del 1902, nel suo studio recentemente inaugurato nel Palacio de Cristal. Questo dipinto è stato reso dal pittore a Melbourne nel 1900 e raffigura un nativo australiano, l'opera è la prova dell'abilità dell'artista nella pittura all'aperto.
