Strigel apparteneva a una famiglia di artisti di successo nella città sud-tedesca di Memmingen. Nei primi due decenni del Cinquecento, produsse una serie di ritratti raffiguranti donne elegantemente vestite posizionate prima di appese tessili decorative e finestre aperte con vista sul paesaggio. La babysitter in questo ritratto non è stata identificata, ma il suo costume elaborato, con i suoi tessuti importati e gioielli ostentati, la colloca tra gli echelon elite della società.
