La figura colossale di Cristo (1821) fu donata all'Accademia nel 1844 dagli eredi dell'artista. Fu uno dei due modelli in gesso realizzati dallo scultore (l'altro è conservato nei musei Thorvaldsens di Copenhagen) per la statua in marmo (1821-1827) destinata al Vor Frue Kirke di Copenaghen. Insieme alla Religione di Antonio Canova, la statua è stata collocata nella chiesa dei Santi Luca e Martina. Nel 1926, durante i lavori strutturali sull'edificio, le statue furono gravemente danneggiate. Cristo frantumato di Thorvaldsen è stato visto e solo il busto e alcuni altri pezzi ora sopravvivono. V.
