San Hubert, aristocratico del VI secolo, è patrono dei cacciatori. La leggenda vuole che si converta in una vita di pietà mentre si caccia, quando un crocifisso gli apparve improvvisamente tra le corna di un cervo. Lo squisito gruppo in biscotto fu modellato da Carlo Camillo Tamietti sulla pala d'altare dipinta da Vittorio Amedeo Rapous per la cappella della loggia di caccia reale di Stupinigi nel 1768. Tamietti fu il talentuoso modellatore della fabbrica Vinovo, fondata nel 1775 da Giovanni Vittorio Brodel, che formò una partnership l'anno successivo con Pierre-Antoine Hannong, della famosa famiglia dei ceramisti di Strasburgo. È firmato sulla base: “Tamiat. Inve(nit): et fecit. 1778”.
